L’Amandier was created from the extraordinary vision of two brothers, Anwar and Riaz Harland-Khan.
Whilst exploring the Atlas Mountains in 2002, they unexpectedly discovered, and fell in love with, the outstandingly beautiful Ouirgane Valley; close to Marrakech.
What captured them in particular was an extraordinary plateau overlooking the olive and citrus groves, with red gorges and the surrounding snow-capped mountains.
At that moment, they sowed the seeds to create one of the best hotels in Morocco.
The brothers bought the land, which started a colourful journey of new friendships with locals, drilling for water, negotiating with tricky officials and finally getting permissions.
Together with their dear friend and award-winning architect, Nick Gowing, they created a vision to transform this scrub of land into a magical oasis.
From this vision (along with an immense amount of hard work and plenty of belief), ideas blossomed, inspiration flowed and L’Amandier started to take shape.
Electricity was painstakingly installed to light this oasis at night and bring all the comforts we expect, but take for granted.
The scrub became lush landscaped gardens.
The empty spaces gave way to stunning residences that look as if they have grown out of the red earth beneath.
The silence became filled with the sounds of a new eco system coming to life.
And now the hotel, the final piece, is almost complete and will open this year.
The brothers feel a little older and perhaps even a little wiser for this journey.
With their unshakeable enthusiasm, determination and the support of a highly professional and committed team of family and friends, they have built one of the most outstanding destinations in the world.
We hope you enjoy it.
